We are delighted to announce the inaugural public meeting for Project MADRUGADA to be held at the Fortaleza Da Luz Wednesday 25th February at 11:30 and to be followed by a charity luncheon at 13:00 hrs in aid of the project.
It has been recognised for some time that
there is a desperate shortfall in the care and information available for those
living in the Algarve
and suffering from Cancer and other serious illness. Whilst local hospitals facilities adequately
cover the essential treatment of patients whilst in hospital, there remains
little or no care and support available for those affected once they return to
their home and family. The lack of
organised specialist care in the community, including hospice care, Macmillan
nursing, centralised information & resources and complementary therapies to
support the recovery of affected residents continues to cause great distress
and concern. All the skills are
available if you know where and how to find them.
The charity ‘Madrugada’, meaning ‘Dawn’ has
been established to support a new initiative which will, in the first instance,
create a resource centre in Luz offering free advice on how to best support the
treatment of serious illness, ensuring that those affected have the very best
chance of achieving recovery whilst reducing the side effects caused by many
allopathic protocols. There is so much
you can do for yourself and so much more we can help you with.
Our eventual aim is to build a support centre which offers residential and day care, training, complementary therapies and care in the community. Our approach will be totally holistic and all services will be delivered under the guidance of a highly qualified team.
Many of you may be labouring under the
false impression that your medical insurance will cover all your needs, may we
respectfully suggest that you check your policy now; the additional care costs incurred
during serious and terminal illness can be immense.
This is an ambitious project, others have
tried before and faltered but we intend to make this a huge success, however we
do need your help. Obviously we will
need medical advice and support from Practitioners, Specialists, Consultants
and nursing staff. Right now we need volunteers with good organisational skills;
we need people skilled in accountancy, legal procedures, planning applications,
IT & Web Site design, administration and fund raising; we need committee
members; we need people with influential contacts; we need people with drive, determination,
compassion & spare time and of course we need donations of equipment and
funds.
More than anything, we need you because maybe, one day, you’ll need us!
Come and join us 25th February
